Required Texts:

There are three required textbooks. Two are available in hardcopy only (Taylor and Hunter), and one (Svenonius) is also available to you as an e-book through the University of Texas and/or the Austin Public libraries. I have, therefore, not placed an order for it at the bookstores. When you have had a chance to look at it online, you can decide whether you want to buy hardcopy or not. I can then either place an order for it or you can buy it individually. The three textbooks are:

Optional texts:

Required readings from these books are available online, but you might prefer to have the book. If you decide to purchase them, be sure to buy the second editions. The first editions are not a substitute.

  • Ray, Erik T. Learning XML. 2nd ed. Sebastopol, CA: O'Reilly, 2003.
  • Rosenfeld, L., & Morville, P. Information Architecture for the World Wide Web. 2nd ed. Sebastopol, CA: O'Reilly, 2002.

Readings listed for a particular day go with the topics scheduled for that day and should be completed before class, except, of course, for those pertaining to the first session.
